On this day 30 years ago, an important event occurred: the ideological and physical division between east and west was finally removed. On the night of the 9th of November 1989 the commander of the Bornholmer Straße border crossing yielded, allowing for the guards to open the checkpoints and allowing people through with little or no identity checking.
