On Sunday, June 23rd 2025, over 80 members of the Romanian-Australian community gathered at the Romanian Orthodox Church of Saints Peter and Paul to celebrate Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse. The turnout was nothing short of amazing, especially considering the event came together on such short notice. The parish is located near the Melbourne Museum and Lygon Street, in the inner-city suburb of Carlton.
This year’s gathering was about coming together, wearing our heritage proudly, and celebrating the stories woven into each thread of our traditional blouses and shirts. The event was entirely community-driven, and organised by EuRaw Inc.
The atmosphere was vibrant and warm. From the youngest children in traditional embroidered outfits to elders wearing heirloom ii (blouses) passed down through generations, everyone brought their own piece of home to the room.
This gathering was about continuity, about seeing our children play in embroidered shirts, about connecting newcomers with old-timers, and about keeping culture alive, wearable, not in a museum, but in movement, voice, and laughter.
Thank you to everyone who came and brought such warmth and beauty. This is just the beginning.
