Film friendships

From Thelma and Louise to Napoleon and Pedro, friendships have often been the motor that keeps a film moving.  Rodica and Rodica are another example of what an impact friendships can have on us.

They can bring meaning to our lives and help us grow. They can stretch us further than we’re comfortable going, drive us mad and push us to take more risks. In each other’s company, the two Rodicas become youthful, jovial and giggly, borrowing energy from each other.

Here are some other memorable screen duos:

  • Mathilda and Leon in Leon
  • Frances and Sophie in Frances Ha
  • Pedro and Napoleon in Napoleon Dynamite
  • Romy and Michelle
  • Withnail and I
  • Thelma and Louise.

  1. Looking forward to seeing this one.
Brennan and Dale from Step Brothers have a rollercoaster friendship that starts off badly, but through some shared activities, brings them together in what looks like a unbreakable bond. Sadly it doesn’t last and the brittle foundations in which their friendship was build upon start to crack. The arguments between them become more intense with venomous insults being flung in both directions. With 3/4’s of the movie complete, it would seem impossible that they would ever be able to restore what was once a sometimes brutally honest and intense childish bond. (Spoiler alert) With less than 007 mins remaining in the film, against the audiences expectations and to my desbelief they manage to restore their friendship just before the film was about to end which left me feeling good about the world again.
